2016 begins and most of us thoughtfully consider the year that was. We think of the victories and the defeats. The celebrations of life and love, and the mourning over loss. The easy decisions and the hard ones.

We’re busy making lists of things we learned, changes that will be put in place, resolutions for healthier living, books we want to read and countless other things that seem important at the moment, but only time will tell if we value the idea enough to put action behind it.

Part of our job is historian. In documenting you and your families during the highs and lows, you invite us in and give us a special place in your world. We see you on some of your best days and occasionally also on your worst. You invite us to be part of your celebrations of love and commitment, to the birthing room as you welcome children, their first birthdays, the special family moments when multiple generations are all gathered together and so many more moments of your lives.

So what has 2015 taught us?

Well, we’ve learned that Coralee LOVES to knit. I mean really, this girl has a new Esty shop up and makes the most glorious chunky knit wear to keep you and your little humans warm. Check her out… it’s easy to remember Red Knit Co.

I (Rebecca) am still up for overseas adventures, and am currently getting to know London! I’ll be back soon, and hopefully the cold part of winter will be over (though I’m pretty sure that is wishful thinking).

Together we, the Red girls, have learned that we’re a little bit crazy about FlashFest, and even though getting the program done for the 2015 festival nearly drove us insane it was well worth it and we are excited about being more involved with the festival going forward.

Loss is hard.

Triumphs should be celebrated. As should birthdays!

Doing something nice for others will always end up making you feel better, which is a really lovely thing!

We also really love smiling! It is our favourite. And we love it when you smile too, and when we somehow impact your lives with our work!

Here are just a few of our 2015 favourites… but what we’re really most excited to show you is coming in 2016!

Happy New Year to all, and thank you for having us tell your stories!

We’re excited about Flash Fest 2015!

Red Photo Co.’s very own Coralee is this year’s Creative Director, and Coralee & Beck will be hosting an evening dedicated to instant film, thanks also to The Impossible Project, later this month!

This week Thursday, October 1, is opening night at The Winnipeg Art Gallery! The event is FREE for all to come down and celebrate the second annual Flash Photographic Festival. There will be a cash bar, so come on down, look at photographic art and have a drink with the artists! The event is from 8-10pm and we’d LOVE to see you there!

Thanks to our family and friends who are always so supportive of our endeavours and put up with us trailing off in mid sentence when the light is just right and we see something magical or stopping the car to get out and shoot because the wind is moving the tall prairie grasses in just the right way… We love you! And thank you to our clients who trust us to create art for them as well. We are honoured to be trusted with capturing your important moments and preserving those memories for you! We love you too!

So come out, give us some hugs and share opening night with us at the WAG!

The Nordale Parents Advisory Group approached us wondering “would photos be a good fundraiser”?

Of course we said YES!

So THIS SATURDAY, September 26th, Coralee & Beck will be shooting mini-sessions to help raise funds for a new nature playground for the Nordale School and the community of Norwood Flats!

What is a mini-session? It’s a short and sweet version of the regular un-portrait session that you can book with Red Photo Co. These will be 15 minutes and will be outdoors (weather permitting) at the Nordale School! Bring your dog or cat, or grandma and grandpa, bring your new bike or that stuffy that you can’t live without. And don’t forget to bring BIG SMILES! This a great way to support a good cause AND get a beautiful photo of your family! If holiday cards are what you’re after, we design those too!

We are looking forward to meeting lots of families from the community and seeing all the smiles!

The day began with a change of plans… a downpour happened at exactly the moment that Ian and Melissa were supposed to see each other for the first time. Not even a down pour could dampen the excitement between these two, and the Millennium Library provided a gorgeous alternative for the first look!

Thankfully the sun didn’t stay away too long, and soon we were outdoors and groomsmen were stepping in puddles and we were all warm and dry.

The Manitoba Club has opened a lovely garden over looking the old Upper Fort Garry, it’s beautiful and provided a fantastic spot for an intimate ceremony.

We love it when couples choose to do things a little differently. Ian and Melissa’s first dance was exactly what they wanted… FUN! These two choreographed a dance to clips from some of their current favourite songs, and it was so much fun to watch because you could see how much fun they were having together! This of course completely falls in line with our philosophy, and rule #1…. Always be yourself!

Thanks you two for having us there to capture your wedding day! We had fun with you, your friends and family and wish you so much more fun together!

Graduating from high school is a big deal! This spirited bunch of girls certainly started their celebrations in style! 20 graduates, friends, and family gathered together at The Southwood Golf and Country Club to spend a little time together as a smaller group before heading to their evening event. It was a gorgeous backdrop for photos of the girls in their graduation finery. The storms held off, and we had a beautiful sunshine filled afternoon together! All the best with your next endeavours, and we wish you lots of adventure in your lives ahead!

SMA2015

When we first met Garrett & Veronica, we couldn’t help but think that lurking under those shy demeanours were two people that not only had infectious laughs, but knew how to make you laugh just by being their witty selves. We were thrilled to be sharing in their wedding day and our first trip to the delightful Hawthorn Estates was worth it, just as we anticipated! Between the purple bowties, constant laughter, random dogs and abandoned barns, the rustic feel of this location charmed us all.

It feels like I (Coralee) have known Richard & Liana forever so it only seems fitting that I’ve seen some of their biggest life’s moments; getting engaged, getting married and now, having not only one but TWO gorgeous baby girls to spoil! Rebecca and I were super excited to hear of the birth of their little darlings and were incredibly happy to share in these precious moments, that seem to pass so quickly. Little E & K, we hope that we are lucky enough to share in a lot more moments with you as you grow up to be delightful little people! Two may be twice as much work, but twice as much fun as well!
