go! and be epic…

So, it was some sort of crazy kismet that I happened upon the amazingly creative Kal Barteski last week (and as it turns out, which is usually the case in Wpg since everyone seems to know each other, I photographed one of her friend’s weddings a while back) and she kindly invited me to take part in a challenge that she was doing. In order to inspire creativity in this dreary part of winter we call February, she and some of her creative friends were challenging each other to create outstanding works of art-of-some-kind to shake up our creative chakras and get inspiration flowing in the right directions. So, being involved in fantastic things is something that I love to be a part of and said yes!

The theme was PERMANENT and I racked my brain for days trying to come up with ideas. I asked people what their idea of permanent was (I got a lot of interesting interpretations: Sharpies, concrete, mountains…) and I’m not sure if that helped me at all..I kind of just felt more clueless! So, if you can believe it, this is what I came up with…

and my rationalization of such a crazy lensbaby image..

I was watching Charlie & the chocolate factory and thought that so little in life is permanent these days. Relationships end, loved ones are lost..even houses can burn down (all of which I have been affected by in the last two years). Watching that silly movie that reminded me so much of the bittersweetness of life’s lessons, I realized that no matter how old you are or how much money you have in your wallet, we all have dreams. They can be small or large but they belong to you and you alone and in my mind, that is permanent. All that Charlie wanted was that last golden ticket so that he and Grandpa Joe could see the mystery behind the closed factory gates and have a swell time at the amazing factory of wonders made by Mr.Wonka. So, there it is..gazing into that shop window, wondering what the possibility of finding the last golden ticket is, is Charlie Buckett, a boy with a dream and for me…dreams are permanent.

You can check out some more amazing interpretations on Kal’s blog!
