2016 begins and most of us thoughtfully consider the year that was. We think of the victories and the defeats. The celebrations of life and love, and the mourning over loss. The easy decisions and the hard ones.

We’re busy making lists of things we learned, changes that will be put in place, resolutions for healthier living, books we want to read and countless other things that seem important at the moment, but only time will tell if we value the idea enough to put action behind it.

Part of our job is historian. In documenting you and your families during the highs and lows, you invite us in and give us a special place in your world. We see you on some of your best days and occasionally also on your worst. You invite us to be part of your celebrations of love and commitment, to the birthing room as you welcome children, their first birthdays, the special family moments when multiple generations are all gathered together and so many more moments of your lives.

So what has 2015 taught us?

Well, we’ve learned that Coralee LOVES to knit. I mean really, this girl has a new Esty shop up and makes the most glorious chunky knit wear to keep you and your little humans warm. Check her out… it’s easy to remember Red Knit Co.

I (Rebecca) am still up for overseas adventures, and am currently getting to know London! I’ll be back soon, and hopefully the cold part of winter will be over (though I’m pretty sure that is wishful thinking).

Together we, the Red girls, have learned that we’re a little bit crazy about FlashFest, and even though getting the program done for the 2015 festival nearly drove us insane it was well worth it and we are excited about being more involved with the festival going forward.

Loss is hard.

Triumphs should be celebrated. As should birthdays!

Doing something nice for others will always end up making you feel better, which is a really lovely thing!

We also really love smiling! It is our favourite. And we love it when you smile too, and when we somehow impact your lives with our work!

Here are just a few of our 2015 favourites… but what we’re really most excited to show you is coming in 2016!

Happy New Year to all, and thank you for having us tell your stories!

xo Red (Coralee & Rebecca)

We here at Red Photo Co. like to travel and explore this wonderful planet we live on. Winter 2015 has seen several expeditions so far, with destinations in the USA and overseas.

We know that we like looking at photos from around the world, so we thought you might like to take a peek into our adventures.

I (Rebecca) went down to sunny California at the end of January. A week away from Winnipeg in January is always welcome, and when it involves seeing close friends, even better!

We spent a little time in LA, and went to The Getty Museum for a day. I could have stayed a week, and want to go back again soon, and that doesn’t even take into account the beaches…

Here’s a look at our day at The Getty…

Get out the confetti and the champagne… Happy NEW YEAR! We know, it’s a little late! It is February, and we’ve had an entire month of 2015 already! Christmas gatherings and New Years celebrations have happened, resolutions have been made, we’ve had some fun January shoots, and I (Rebecca) went to California for a week. February brings with it a couple of winter weddings, and we’ve got our fingers crossed that we’ll be spared the -40 windchills for those days. And since we have a lot of images you haven’t seen yet from the autumn, those will be showing up on the blog over the next few weeks! We’ve done some damn fine work for some very lovely folks over the course of the last few months, and are excited to share some of the images with you.

To start the new year, we’d like to hear from YOU!

What are your resolutions? Are you going to be more mindful of what you’re putting into your body? Are you going to smile more? Is working out going to be given more attention? Will you walk the dog even when it’s -40? Give us some feedback, tell us how we’re doing, what kind of products you’d like to see, how we can make the experience of being photographed better for you. And since February is unofficially the month of LOVE, with Valentines Day falling smack dab in the middle of the month, we’re going to share some sweetness of our own… stay tuned for details!

We’ve got some exciting things planned for 2015! Some personal (we’ll both be be doing a little traveling, and we’ll be sharing a few images with you here), and some professional (we’ve got a few ideas up our sleeves that we think you’ll like)!

ps. This is Venice Beach. Even on a cloudy day it’s pretty magical.

Rebecca and I have been very blessed to have shared so many memories with amazing people this entire year! Wishing you the happiest of days ahead with the people that you love…

And now for something a little different. Back in the fall when the colours were turning and the weather was still unseasonably warm, I took a Sunday to go hiking in the desert…or at least the closest thing to a desert that Manitoba offers.

I just got word from the Boston Terrier & Pug Rescue of Southern Manitoba (where I got my sweet Charlie from) that one of their foster dogs, Pablo is missing. Any help in bringing him home would be very much appreciated! Here’s some more information…

Please, please help! Pablo the red Boston Terrier is missing – last seen around 11 a.m. on October 9th near Two Mile Rd by St. Mary’s/St. Anne’s and the Perimeter. Please tell everyone you know in that area to be on the lookout for him! He will NOT come to people – please, if you see him call 688-4250 anytime, day or night!
Keep update on the search for Pablo on the help find Pablo facebook page.

Unfortunately Pablo is still missing but if you are interested in keeping afloat of Pablo news, he now has a “help find Pablo” facebook page HERE!

Earlier this week I said goodbye to one of my sweet Boston Terriers, Chico. He was only in my life for a few short months but he touched my heart so much. After fostering him for a few weeks, I knew that there was no way that I could live without him so I signed the papers, adopted him and gave him his forever home here with Charlie & I. He had such a genuine sweetness about him and all that he wanted was to give and receive love. He had a heartbreaking past coming from a puppymill but thankfully was rescued and was given a chance to be loved. The fantastic ladies from the Boston Terrier & Pug Rescue of Southern Manitoba gave him more love and attention than he had every experienced and I am so grateful to them, and his foster parents Carole & Mike and their family for showing him that life can be filled with fun and love instead of hurt and neglect. I also want to thank the staff at Southglen Veterinary Hospital for making his last days as easy as possible and for fighting to give him every chance that he deserved to be well. Cheeky, you have no idea how much I will miss you. You touched the hearts of so many that will never forget you. Rest in peace my sweet boy…
