One of my (Coralee’s) first loves is live music. From flying to California for a weekend to see a ton of bands at Coachella to driving 8 hours what seems like once a month in the summertime to Minneapolis, I just CANNOT get enough! So to have been asked to photograph one of my fave local bands, The Duhks , for the second time at their sold out hometown show at The WECC for their new album, Beyond the Blue, was an honour yet again! Thanks lovies, I always have the best time catch up pre-show, being able to photograph from whatever vantage point that I desire (including on stage…can’t get better than that!) and witnessing the amazing energy that is your show!

(…and the majority of the group shots were taken in a span of about 3 minutes during the intermission. For those that think that photography is all about taking photos, you’re sorely mistaken. It’s mostly about using what you have (or are granted), being prepared AND utilizing the vibe of your subjects. In between sets? That’s when musicians are full of adrenaline and more than happy to laugh at you!)

Our Thanksgiving weekend got even sweeter as we joined Kevin & Ali on their wedding day!

We’ve never before met anyone who is afraid of ladybugs…so it was pretty funny (to us) that we ended up putting the wedding party into a densely populated ladybug zone for some of the afternoon photos! Everyone had a good attitude despite the ladybug infestation, and it certainly led to lots of genuine smiles and just a few looks of terror! After a morning that was dreary and rainy, the sun came out with uncanny timing, just as we were heading out to the forest. Couldn’t have planned it better if we’d tried!

We love that we have this opportunity to be right in the middle of all the action during the day, and that we get a unique opportunity to get to know couples and their families quite quickly because of the time spent together. The amazing stories we hear make us laugh, and even make us cry sometimes! During the speeches, Kevin’s parents played a recording of a four-year-old Kevin and his grandmother singing a song together and it was one of the sweetest moments we’ve ever witnessed!

Thanks you two for including us in your big day, we had a wonderful time with you and your friends and family!

Ok, so we have to admit something … we were completely smitten with Brytani’s tea length dress and red patent mary janes! We understand the importance of a lovely shoe, and have a soft spot in our hearts for all things red, so when we saw the shorter dress we just might have had hearts in our eyes!

The Manitoba Club was a lovely venue for this brunch wedding!

Every wedding has a sweet story, or two, and this one was no exception. Instead of tossing her bouquet to the single gals, Brytani had a few tear jerking words to say to her sweet grandmother! It’s so beautiful to see all the generations of family celebrating together, and when you are lucky enough to have your grandparents at your wedding make sure to hug them tight and make a point of taking a few photos with them!

Congratulations to you Michael & Brytani, and all our best wishes for your life together!

If we had to pick one word to characterize these two and their beautiful wedding day it would be LAUGHTER!

Chanel and Rob are lovely. Pure and simple these two obviously have a great deal of love for each other, and clearly enjoy life a whole bunch!

We like that part of our job is spending time with people and getting to know them at least a little. With these two the small things are enjoyed just as much as the big things and games and laughing are of utmost importance.

A sense of humour is certainly important, and Chanel and Rob’s friends and families are not short on humour or fun. In Chinese culture it is tradition for the groom to have to complete tasks and pay his way into the brides home. Only once he has completed these tasks to the brides families satisfaction is he allowed in. From the groomsmen choreographing a dance number to Chanel’s favourite boy band and doing one armed push ups, Rob and his best men had their work cut out to gain entrance and did it all with a smile! At the reception as part of their toast, Chanel’s sisters put on their sneakers and performed to another favourite song; this group clearly makes having fun a priority!

All the best to you two and Baxter! xoxo

JPulia, as they’ve affectionately named by friends, got married!!!

These two are a team, and teamwork is evident in their renovation projects, and certainly in the details of their wedding! Every detail for this lovely brunch wedding was thought of, and often it was JP executing, with extreme precision, Julia’s vision. JP even lazer cut ALL of the place cards, as well as the cover for their guest book!

The details were stunning, beginning with the vintage postcard invitations, the doilies repurposed as bunting, amazing florals, china tea cups holding the tea bag that corresponds to your table, and the list goes on…

We’re so happy to have been able to celebrate your day with you! Have a wonderful life together!

Lily wasn’t interested in having her photo taken. At all. She didn’t want to wear her coat, thankfully the sun was out and she wasn’t also freezing on top of everything else that seemed to be irritating the almost 2 year old! We packed up and trundled off to the park. First she needed some mama snuggles, then treats were a must! She finally started warming up to the idea of this little outing her mother and I planned when she was chased in circles around a mural on the stage at Coronation Park. We got a few real giggles out of her before she remembered that she was actually not up for having any fun. This kid has got one heck of a stink eye, and a mean pout to boot!

The park seemed to get old fast, so we went back to the family home and tried again in the backyard. Trampolines, tricycles and swing sets are wonderful things! We did manage to get more than a few smiles and giggles out of Lily again, despite her best effort to maintain a cool demeanour!

Let’s do it again soon!

Red Photo Co. was on the road (and we love road trips, even short ones), out to Carberry MB, for this lovely family centred wedding.

Britney & Chris got married on the property where she grew up, their cutie pie 1 year old daughter was their flower girl, and her grandfathers walked her from the car to meet her dad for the walk down the aisle!

When a bride climbs a sand dune in 5 inch heels she kinda becomes our hero! The rest of the wedding party, along with Coralee and myself stood and watched Britney climb the dune like it was no big deal!

Congratulations to you two, we wish you every happiness in the world!
